Semiya Upma(Vermicelli upma)

Recipe for Vermicelli upma:

Ingredients:

Vermicelli (semiya)-1 cup

Mixed vegetables(cabbage,carrots,green peas)-1 cup

Onion-1 (big)

Tomato-1 (big)

Salt to taste.

For Seasoning:

mustard seeds-1tsp

cumin seeds-1tsp

urad dal-1tsp

few sprigs of curry leaves

ginger-1tsp (finely chopped)

Procedure:

  • Fry the vermicelli,till it turns to light brown, in a pan with two spoons of ghee.
  • Transfer it to a plate and allow to cool.
  • In the same pan, add a teason of oil and do the seasoning.
  • Add the chopped onions and saute for few minutes till they leave the raw smell.
  • Add the mixed vegetables along with the chopped tomato and saute for five minutes.
  • Adjust salt according to your taste and add two cups of water.
  • Cook on a low flame till the veggies are done.
  • Once the veggies are done, add the fried semiya(vermicelli) and mix thoroughly.
  • Cook for another three to four minutes till the vermicelli boils well and comes together.
  • Add a spoon of ghee to the upma and mix well.

Serve it hot.
