Alu Matar ki sabji (Potatoes and peas in creamy gravy)

Recipe for Alu Matar ki sabji in Creamy gravy:

Ingredients:

Potatoes- 2 or 3
Green peas- 1/2 cup
Onion- 1
Tomatoes- 2
Ginger- garlic paste- 1 tsp
Milk cream- 1/4th cup
green chillies- 2
Cumin powder- 1/2 tsp
Coriander powder- 2 tsps
Garam masala- 1 tsp
Red chilli powder- 1 tsp
Turmeric- 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste

For Seasoning:
Mustard- 1/2 tsp
Cumin- 1/2 tsp

Procedure:

  • Wash, peel and cut the potatoes into small cubes.
  • If you use frozen peas, wash them nicely and keep aside.
  • Chop the onions, green chillies and tomatoes.
  • Grind these three together, adding g-g paste, half a spoon of garam masala, turmeric and a pinch of salt.
  • Make a smooth paste of it and keep aside.
  • In a skillet, heat little oil and do the seasoning.
  • Add the grinded onion- tomato paste and fry, until it leaves the raw smell.
  • Add the potato cubes and green peas to it, saute for two minutes.
  • Add a cup of water and cover with a lid.
  • When the potatoes are half boiled, add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric and salt.
  • Mix them well till, the potaoes and green peas are coated well with the spices.
  • Once the potatoes are boiled completely, simmer the flame and add the milk cream and mix well.
  • Cover with a lid and cook for few minutes, till the creamy consistency of the gravy appears, and separates from the pan.
  • Garnish with some fresh coriander.

This is a very good accompaniment, for both rice and rotis.
