Recipe for Masoor dal ki makhani:

Ingredients:
Masoor dal- 1 cup
Milk cream- 1/2 cup
Green chillies- 2
Butter- 2 tsps
Onion- 1 (big)
Ginger- garlic paste- 1 tsp
Tomatoes- 2 or puree- 1 cup
Dal makhani masala- 1 tsp
Pinch of turmeric
Salt to taste
Fresh coriander for garnishing

Procedure:

  • Wash and boil the masoor dal adding a pinch of turmeric.
  • Heat little oil in a wide skillet, add the chopped green chillies and fry for a minute.
  • Add the chopped onions and saute, till they leave the raw smell.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and saute till they turn soft.
  • Add the turmeric, dal makhani masala, salt and the boiled dal.
  • Add the milk cream and butter and mix well.
  • Cover with a lid and cook for five minutes, till the dal absorbs the spices well.
  • Garnish the dal makhani with some fresh coriander and serve it hot.

It is a good accompaniment for rotis, naans, phulkas and even steamed rice.

    Milk Cream is composed of the higher-butterfat layer skimmed from the top of milk before homogenization.

    You can get this in any food store labeled as “Milk Cream”.
